CEDAR CITY, UT – The Utah Summer Games Opening Ceremonies will have more to celebrate this year than just the official beginning of the athletic events. The June 9th festivities will include the announcement of changing the name to The Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games.
Games Executive Director Casey McClellan is ecstatic with the development. “We believe this will impact the entire community, Cedar City, Iron County and the athletes across the state of Utah.”
McClellan continued, “This is a real tribute to the countless volunteers, coordinators, athletes, employees and supporters of the Games over the course of the 30-year history of this event. So many people have worked tirelessly to put the Games in a position that the Larry H. Miller organization would be willing to partner with us to enrich the athletes’ experience.”
“To have the LHM brand as part of the name raises the profile of our organization across the state and especially on the Wasatch Front,” said McClellan. “They are recognized as one of the most successful companies in the United States and we feel honored to have this major sponsorship with the LHM Family & Group.”
“We have been so fortunate to have hundreds of businesses and individuals contribute to our success over the decades,” said McClellan, “and this new partnership with the Larry H. Miller brand will take us to new heights. I couldn’t be more excited about this wonderful new champion of the Games.”
The name change officially takes effect on July 1, 2016. The announcement comes on June 9th during the Opening Ceremonies at Eccles Coliseum so a large majority of the Games athletes and fans will be the first to receive the exciting news.
“The support of our city, county, state, local school district, tourism bureau, southern Utah University, and too many generous benefactors to mention have carried the Summer Games on their shoulders for three decades,” stated McClellan. “This new partnership will only help to elevate the efforts of so many to new heights. Everyone ever associated with the Games has played a part in bringing us to this place and now we are excited to celebrate new friends committed to improving the Games for everyone.”
McClellan explained why he believes Larry H. Miller is a perfect fit for the Summer Games. “They have always been involved in sports and sporting events across the state of Utah and they are huge supporters of the importance of wholesome family entertainment and activities. It just feels like a perfect match for us.”
“Serving as the title sponsor of the Utah Summer Games demonstrates our family’s and company’s commitment to the state, sports, and healthy lifestyles.” Said Gail Miller, owner of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies. “We are long-time supporters of the games and its efforts to promote excellence in competition and sportsmanship.”
Several sports have competed already in this year’s Games but the majority will be conducted over the next two weeks and dozens of venues in and around Cedar City.
Founded in 1986 by then Southern Utah State College President Dr. Gerald R. Sherratt, the Games have grown into a nationally-recognized state games organization.
