Utah first lady asks for letters, cards to Ukrainian refugee children

Dear friends,

Over the last few weeks we have all watched heartbreaking events unfold in Ukraine. Like me, you may wonder what you can do to bring comfort to these new refugees —particularly children — who are fleeing to bordering countries.

Right now, Utahns are coming together with Driven to Assist to send relief supplies to Poland, including clothes, blankets and sanitary supplies. I have partnered with this effort, and urge you to contribute if you can. But with this shipment of needed goods, we would also like to send our love and compassion.
This week I am asking Utah’s school children to write letters and cards, or draw artwork, offering friendship and encouragement to Ukrainian refugee children. I have seen how this kind of gift can lift the recipient and develop empathy in the sender. Let’s share our caring Utah spirit with those who need it most.

Time is of the essence. Please mail or hand-deliver your cards and letters to the Governor’s Mansion at 603 E. South Temple, SLC Utah 84102. They must be received by Thursday, March 17, by 4:00 pm. I will personally see that they are included in the humanitarian relief shipment.

Thank you for showing up for Utah’s children, and our Ukrainian friends as well.

Warmly,

Utah First Lady Abby Cox
