Don Stirling retires this summer
The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation announces a leadership transition as its executive director, Don Stirling, retires July 3, 2026, and Amanda Covington expands her role to serve as executive director for Miller Family Philanthropy.
“Don has been instrumental in building meaningful, collaborative relationships across the philanthropic community and in creating and supporting programs that have strengthened our work and expanded our impact in the communities we serve,” said Gail Miller, chair of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation and co-founder of the Larry H. Miller Company. “Amanda brings sound judgment and deep understanding of our mission, strong relationships and proximity to the communities we support, and a sincere commitment to the values that guide our work. I know she will lead with care and purpose in the years ahead.”
Don Stirling joined the Larry H. Miller Company in 2012 before being named executive director of Miller Family Philanthropy in 2020. His work has guided the growth of Miller Family Philanthropy while deepening the human connections that define the Miller Family Foundation’s giving strategy. Following his retirement, he will continue to support the Foundation in an advisory capacity while also maintaining his role as a senior advisor to the Organizing Committee for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. In addition to these roles, Stirling also currently serves as a trustee of Salt Lake Community College.
“It has been a privilege to be part of this organization and its philanthropic mission,” said Don Stirling. “I am grateful for the relationships, experiences and opportunities to help make a difference alongside so many dedicated people. I have great confidence in Amanda and the team, and I look forward to supporting them while watching this important work flourish.”
Amanda Covington will assume the role of executive director of Miller Family Philanthropy in addition to her current responsibilities as Chief Corporate Affairs at the Larry H. Miller Company. She will work closely with Foundation trustees and team, as well as the Miller family, to continue advancing the mission of enriching lives and strengthening communities.
“I am grateful for this opportunity and the Miller family’s trust and support. It is an honor to step into this role and help carry forward the Foundation’s work,” said Amanda Covington. “Don is a compassionate leader who clearly understands needs and issues our friends in the community are facing. He has helped shape this work in meaningful and unprecedented ways, and I’m committed to building on that legacy.”
Amanda will begin serving in her new role on July 1.
“Don has helped shape the growth and direction of the LHM Company and Miller Family Philanthropy for more than a decade,” said Steve Starks, CEO. “He has strengthened the foundation’s reach and positioned this work for continued impact. Amanda has worked alongside Don and the Miller family for several years and is well-prepared to lead this next chapter for our philanthropy team.
Miller Family Philanthropy builds on the Miller family’s longstanding commitment to community, education, opportunity, and service in Utah.
