SALT LAKE CITY – Individuals and groups interested in supporting the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah professional stage race are invited to complete online volunteer applications beginning today. Applications are being accepted by each Local Organizing Committee (LOC) that is hosting a stage start or a stage finish at this year’s Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. As many as 1,200 volunteer positions will be needed for the annual, professional cycling event, Aug. 1-7. The volunteer application is available at the official web site, in the Experience section.
Volunteers play a key role in the success of this international sporting event, which will see five of the 16 invited men’s teams traveling from the Tour de France to compete at the Tour of Utah. The host venues for 2016 are Zion Canyon Village and Cedar City on Aug. 1; Escalante and Torrey on Aug. 2; Richfield and Payson on Aug. 3; IM Flash and Kearns on Aug. 4; Antelope Island State Park and Bountiful on Aug. 5; Snowbasin Resort and Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort on Aug. 6; Park City on Aug. 7. In addition to volunteer position on the seven race days, volunteer positions are also available for official pre-race events in Cedar City on July 30 and 31.
On the volunteer application, individuals can request a specific assignment for one or multiple shifts. The recommended age for volunteers is 18. Applicants must sign a waiver for themselves, or by an adult or legal guardian if the applicant is 17 years of age or younger. Each volunteer receives a commemorative Tour of Utah T-shirt, hat, water bottle, rain poncho, lip balm and sun screen. A box lunch will also be provided to volunteers each day.
The volunteer registration application is maintained on the Tour of Utah website (tourofutah.com). Registration will remain open through the end of July, but may close as positions are filled at the various stages for race week. Each LOC will recruit, train and schedule the local volunteers as needed for its specific stage start and/or finish. The Volunteer FAQs section of the website provides details on the application process, descriptions of specific positions and opportunities for youth groups. Individuals interested in working as a traveling course marshal for race week should send a request via email to volunteer@tourofutah.com.
The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah will be the first internationally-sanctioned cycling race on the UCI America Tour following this year’s Tour de France.
