SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz star Gordon Hayward and the Jazz Bear mascot will be rededicating a Jazz community court on Aug. 2 as part of the National Night Out celebration in South Salt Lake.

Hayward will be at the Central Park Community Center (2797 South 200 East) from 6-7 p.m. to toss up the ceremonial jump ball that officially opens the new Jazz outdoor court. He will participate in shooting contests and other court activities.

The South Salt Lake Court is one of 16 Utah Jazz community courts that has been built or funded since 2001. Funding for the project was provided by Larry H. Miller Charities, a nonprofit organization representing the charitable arm of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, in conjunction with South Salt Lake.

Hayward and Jazz Bear are attending the Night Out Against Crime and Emergency Preparedness Fair. The local event from 5:30-8:30 p.m. is part of the National Night Out movement, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

The free event will feature booths with information on bike safety, fire prevention and car seat safety. Additionally, there will be a classic car show, bounce houses and slides, an Air Med helicopter, animal services with pets for adoption, a demonstration by the South Salt Lake Police Department K-9 unit, and more.
