Jazz Unveil “Jazz Youth at Home” for Remote Learning

SALT LAKE CITY (April 10, 2020) – The Utah Jazz today unveiled “Jazz Youth at Home,” a slate of programming to engage students during this period of remote learning due to the coronavirus pandemic. The content series is part of the NBA Together campaign that aims to support, educate and inspire youth, families and fans throughout this unprecedented time.

“Jazz Youth at Home,” which is live now at www.jazzyouth.com/at-home, is highlighted by basketball skills and drills videos starring Jazz players and Jazz Youth coaches. The instructional videos are designed for all skill levels and encourage young Jazz fans to stay active and develop their game in a safe and healthy way.

The at-home programming also features a Bingo contest with a board full of unique tasks related to Jazz Youth, staying active and helping around the home:

Tasks include jumping rope or hopping for five minutes, watching Jazz highlights on YouTube, completing 10 minutes of ball handling or dribbling drills, and helping with household chores.

Jazz Youth Bingo runs from April 13 through May 15. Parents and guardians are encouraged to tag @jazzyouth in photos and videos of their children completing the challenges on Instagram.

Downloadable prizes for all contestants who submit a winning Bingo board via social media will be sent electronically. Participants who complete a blackout of every square on the board will receive a $5 gift card to the Utah Jazz Team Store and entry into a grand prize drawing for a Jazz prize pack, which includes a pair of adidas Donovan Mitchell D.O.N. Issue #1 shoes, basketball, bobblehead and stickers. Five grand prize winners will be announced on May 18.

“Jazz Youth at Home” programming is also comprised of a digital Jazz coloring book (one page pictured below) and activities for students, including word scrambles, mazes and word searches.

In addition, the Jazz recently launched a 30-day FIT challenge, in partnership with University of Utah Health, to promote health and wellness. Adults and children can download trackers to log daily consumption of water, fruits and vegetables, and physical activity at www.utahjazz.com/jazz-fit-30-day-challenge.

The team is also promoting “Bear’s Reading Challenge,” which encourages students to read for at least 600 total minutes through April 27. Teachers, parents and students can download the reading tracker and learn more at www.utahjazz.com/reading-challenge.

The Jazz have provided a downloadable picture of Jazz Bear for neighbors to color and place in their window as part of the “Jazz Bear Hunt.” Throughout this period of social distancing, it has become a common game for homes, apartments and essential businesses to place a bear in their window for children on walks and bike rides to spot. Jazz fans who notice a photo of Bear in their neighborhood are encouraged to post a photo to social media using the hashtag #JazzBearHunt for the chance to win prizes, including a signed jersey.

The comprehensive “Jazz Youth at Home” program focuses on the “Expand Your Community” platform of NBA Together, which encourages content, activities and virtual engagement in an effort to stay physically and mentally healthy and active.
