The Force is Strong with Utah Star Wars Fans as Megaplex Ranks #1 in U.S. for Rogue One

Utah’s avid Star Wars fans showed up in force at Megaplex Theatres as Jordan Commons in Sandy enjoyed the top spot in the United States for the opening of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

According to national cinema rankings, the Megaplex Theatres at The District in South Jordan finished in the fourth (#4) spot, followed by the Megaplex at Thanksgiving Point at number eleven (#11) and the newest Megaplex location at Geneva in Vineyard finished at number nineteen (#19) among the more than four thousand theatre locations showing the film in the United States.

“Utah Star Wars fans have again proven themselves the most enthusiastic in the U.S.,” said Blake Andersen, President of Megaplex Theatres. “The Megaplex team is delighted to have so many fans gather at our locations to celebrate this new chapter in the classic series and are already making plans for the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII coming next year.”

According to Box Office Mojo, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story earned $155 million in it’s opening weekend, the second biggest December opening of all time right behind last year’s Star Wars: Episode VII.

Megaplex Theatres has ranked first in the nation for several films so far this year, including the Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Fifth Wave, The Finest Hours, and several more titles.

Megaplex locations all across Utah hosted dozens of Star Wars themed company parties and special events with many guests arriving in authentic looking Darth Vader, Storm Trooper, or other Star Wars inspired costumes.

Local Star Wars fans are already counting down the days until the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII that is scheduled to premiere at Megaplex Theatres in December 2017.
