SANDY, UT (January 10, 2024) – The grandchildren of philanthropists Larry H. and Gail Miller led a collective effort to donate $330,000 to the Maui Strong Fund through the Miller Legacy Project, an initiative of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation. Members of the Miller Family also went to Maui to visit the organizations these funds supported.

In response to the wildfires on Maui, the Hawaii Community Foundation worked closely with local leaders and created the Maui Strong Fund, which provides financial resources and supports recovery needs for those affected by the wildfires. 

“The devastation from the Maui wildfires was heartbreaking,” said Aaron Anderson, Miller family member and treasurer of the Miller Legacy Project. “We knew our family needed to contribute in some way. Our donation was be distributed to local grassroots organizations providing direct aid on Maui.”

The Miller Legacy Project provides an educational giving experience to future generations of the Miller family and is specifically designed to perpetuate the philanthropic legacy of both Gail and Larry. 

“Larry and Gail’s example of service and giving back has instilled a spirit of philanthropy in our family,” said Bryce Miller, chair of the Miller Legacy Project and Gail and Larry Miller’s grandson. “Third-generation members of the Miller family united to make this donation possible.” 

During their visit to the island, Aaron and Madelaine Anderson, both third-generation members of the Miller Family, met with The Hawaii Community Foundation, the Maui Food Bank, and the Pacific Birth Collective – three organizations that are providing direct services to individuals and families that have been impacted by the wildfires.  

“We had the wonderful opportunity to see firsthand the great work that is being done in Maui,” said Aaron Anderson. “Every person we interacted with welcomed us with open arms and shared their stories of hope and resilience. Visiting Maui and interacting with these organizations was awe-inspiring. We saw first-hand the spirit of Maui’s strong community shining bright.”
