Dozens of Community Partners Deliver On-Site Services, Including Records Expungement, Vision Screenings, and Pet Care.
Driven by a mission to enrich lives, Larry H. Miller Company employees and the Miller family welcomed neighbors experiencing homelessness and food insecurity to its annual Season of Service event in Salt Lake City for a free Thanksgiving meal and access to community resources.
“Thanksgiving and the holiday season are important times to gather and make sure our friends and neighbors feel supported,” Steve Miller, Chairman of the Board at the Larry H. Miller Company, said. “This tradition, which my family has continued for nearly thirty years, reminds us that a warm meal, essential services, and acts of kindness brighten the season for us all.”
This year, hundreds of volunteers from the Larry H. Miller Company and the Miller family, along with community leaders and partners, gathered at the Salt Palace Convention Center and served 5,000 Thanksgiving meals to guests. More than 20 local organizations provided additional support and community resources, such as dental cleanings, vision screenings and mental health resources.
“Service is a cornerstone value of the Larry H. Miller Company and one that each of our teammates and businesses exemplifies daily,” Steve Starks, CEO of the Larry H. Miller Company, said. “It is uplifting to see such a gathering within our community and humbling to remember our blessings and the gift of hope. I’m grateful to our employees and community partners for coming together year after year in such an important effort.”
Utah Congresswoman Celeste Maloy; Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox and First Lady Abby Cox; Utah State Representatives Tyler Clancy, Ariel Defay, and Steve Eliason; Mayors Erin Mendenhall (Salt Lake City) and Dawn Ramsey (City of South Jordan), Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd; and Salt Lake Community College President Greg Peterson were also in attendance for an afternoon and evening of service. Guests at the event were served a traditional Thanksgiving meal, including turkey, ham, potatoes, gravy, stuffing, vegetables, dinner rolls and a dessert.
During the month of November, the Larry H. Miller platforms and businesses also hosted a clothing drive to collect new and gently used warm clothing for the Salt Lake City Mission to distribute. Employees from the Larry H. Miller Company, the Miller family, Larry H. Miller Real Estate, Miller Sports + Entertainment, Larry H. Miller Senior Health, and other businesses were part of the initiative.
“Participating in the Season of Service event each year is a joy,” said Pastor Shawn Clay, Director of the Salt Lake City Mission. “Seeing our friends in the community enjoy a warm meal while connecting with vital resources from local partners is what the holiday season is all about. We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of this event each year and to serve alongside so many who care.”
